Study Project: Kagura Uzume no Monogatari

Discretion: All artwork in the moodboards are not my works. I just study them and hold no ownership of them.

It all began in a Basic Digital Painting class. I'm not a newbie artist, yet I want to recollect some old knowledge in art and learn something new. That's why I attended a basic class, since I didn't know how to do concept painting anyway.
My teacher who is a professional in the market asked us to create an Original Character with keyword "Witch/ Magician/ Wizard/ etc...". First thing came in my mind is "Onmyouji" - which is some kind of Japanese magic people after all. That's when I created my first (proper) Original Character: Kagura Uzume and her partner Ou-yaji.

First thing first, I need myself a brainstorm to define my OC's appearance. I made a mind map, as you can see, and try to describe her life as detailed as possible. I also did some moodboards for the visual. And yes, I'm a BIG FAN of Shirow Miwa sensei. Yes, BIG FAN. After many preferencing process, I found myself a perfect character. This album will be my work in process and I will update regularly. Hang on guys.

About the story:
Kagura Uzume is a teenage Onmyouji, whose partner is also her father - the Great God of Strenght and Martial Art Sarutahiko Oukami. Her mother is The Goddess of Art Amano Uzume. Yes, she is the one who tricks Amaterasu out of her cave, in case you happened to know that story. So that means our Kagura is a Little God herself. Her mission is training under his father to keep peace in her neighbor. She has to keep the Youkai and Urban Legends at bay, and she has a big ass Seal Hammer to make it happen. The Seal Hammer, inspired by Uchide no Kozuchi, is actually her father's transformation. By the way, he is called by his daughter "Ou-yaji" (short for Oukami-Oyaji). He is a mini Tengu as her partner/ guardian/ shikigami. Together they will take on many challenges for her to be recognised by The Heaven.

TL,DR: I made an OC thanks to my teacher's homework and it's about a teenage Onmyouji and her father/ tengu/ hammer.

After listening to my tutor's feedback, I made some modifications for the silhouette. I removed the little wings on her side. She will fly by her jet mecha boots instead of wings. And the hammer is literaly the Tengu now. I also made some color scheme variations for Kaguya. IMO I love the Square version the most.

For now I have to design a place for my OC to be. A haunted Japanese duplex apartment. I had so much fun with this project, since it's been ages for me to use Sketchup and Vray again. This time I figured out how to use lights and tricks. and what do you know, it worked like a dream. I was extremely excited with how it came out. God blesses SU and Vray creators.

Been hella busy recently. Anyway, I've redrawn the 3D version of Kagura's house into 2D version by Photoshop. This has been a super excited yet anxious process for me. Yet I prevailed in the end.
I also redesign Kaguya herself. The human bishoujo design is kinda general for my taste. She is now official a little Karasutengu with beak and wings and stuff. And I super love this one.

Also I made a short comic of explaining how she turns her father into a hammer LOL. It feels so good to draw comic after a heck of a long time.
